Happy January! Despite not being in the holiday season, I have found the best way to cure the after Christmas blues. Take a weekend trip or plan a getaway. It is a nice way to de-stress from all the holiday hustle and bustle, plus it gives you something to look forward to!
My friends and boyfriend planned a trip up to Holiday Valley in New York. It was the cutest, little town, but did not disappoint in any regard. We visited the second week of January over the weekend spending Friday-Sunday there. We booked an Airbnb above the Tim Horton's which was PERFECT for the four of us! It was close to town, the resort, and there was a brand new brewery across the street! We only paid $70.00 a person for the entire weekend. The place had everything we needed and was so reasonable for how nice it was.
This was one of my favorite trips I've taken in the last year. It was a great start to 2020! I learned to ski at the ski school in the resort. The staff were wonderful. They were very patient and I even made a few friends in class.
Skiing was easier and more difficult than I expected. It was easier to get around than I anticipated, but harder to stop. The scenery was beautiful despite not having the best weather. As pictured above, one of the trails is entirely lined with pine trees. It is absolutely stunning. I really hope to go back! Most of my time was spent on the bunny slope. Overall, I loved the resort, the atmosphere, and the people. Everyone was so friendly. I think it would be a wonderful location to visit during the summer or fall. My only complaint would be as far as lunch goes. There is a coffee cafe and a lunch section.
The restaurants in town however did not disappoint! We went to the Ellicottville Brewing Company on Friday. I had the

For dinner Saturday, we visited the brewery right across the street from our Airbnb. It had a totally different theme, with skulls, colored lighting, industrial touches and rock n' roll elements. I pictured the bar up top with the fun skeleton! It was a cute touch to their bar menu. I must say how delicious the pizza was. We all ordered the caprese pizza and it was by far one of the best flavored pizzas I have ever had. Pittsburgh has some damn good pizza. It was thin crust and about 6 pieces of awesome.
Lastly, Sunday morning we enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Katy's Cafe. This is also a must do. They have a giant menu of breakfast options to please all preferences. It has the coziest vibe of a cafe, but is indeed a restaurant. Everyone gets their own individual mug. The food was very reasonable and unique! I had a bagel sandwich with eggs, cucumbers, cheese, and ham. It was wonderful!
The nightlife was also a blast! We went to Balloons and the Gin Mill. Both were awesome and had their own vibe. Balloons had a rockin' band, a decent bar crowd, and plenty of people dancing. In the back, they have a sports bar too with sit down tables. I LOVED the Gin Mill. It had a tin ceiling, and also a wonderful band that played a large genre. Most people were dancing and tables scattered around the dance floor. It was packed and a barrel of fun! People were so outgoing. It was nice to feel so welcomed by the locals.
